Durga Puja 2021

The Greatest Show on Earth is proud to announce that the Biggest Street Art Carnival- Durga Puja,Kolkata won the crown of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage on 16th Dec, 2021. UNESCO is wondered to find fusion of Art, Culture and Religion in Durga Puja giving a shape of Carnival and positioned itself beside Samba Dance of Rio De Janeiro, Mardi Gras Carnival of European Countries and so on. Besides Golden Triangle, Kumbh Mela, Darjeeling Tea the world is going to recognize India for this Urban Carnival of Kolkata - Durga Puja. A simple religious 5 days festival turns into the biggest urban art gallery where more than 11 million people of multiethnic culture come on the busy streets. Such a huge and live art installation which stops normal flow of cars and buses!

 

2) A first such festival in Asia to be given UNESCO heritage tag internationally! More than 11 million people come on the streets of the City of Joy for 5 days & nights long carnival. The worth of the creative economy is likely to be 4.38 billion USD which is equal to the worth of 3 Burj Khalifas of Dubai, the world's tallest building.

In the October of 2021, the delegates of British Council came to Kolkata during Durga Puja & had an absolutely fascinating cultural experience while they explored the economy fuelled by Durga Puja with the study done by Queen Mary University of London.
